We are Raider Robotics, the robotics team of Scotch Plains Fanwood High School. Our team competes in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), a robotics competition for grades 7-12 run under FIRST, an organization dedicated to student involvement in robotics and STEM. Meet our team members & coaches.
Each competition season, FTC releases a new game where teams must build robots to complete different tasks to score points. This year's game is named Decode. In Decode you must pick up this years game element, Artifacts and launch them into the goal to score. Once in the goal they must pass through the square into the ramp were they will be blocked by the gate. Once the ramp is full Artifacts will go into overflow and will be worth less points. The gate can be opened by the robots allowing the balls to be put back on the field and allowing Artifacts to stay in the ramp and be worth more points. At the end, robots must go to there bases and extend to fit two robots (there alliance partner inside the 18 by 18 base for more points.
The team is in the NorthEast Edge League and usually has one competition per month from November to January. In February our league meet takes place - determining if the team moves on to the state-wide competition. While our team travels to other high schools for most competitions, we host the December meet at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School. Check out the dates below to see if you can come and support the team!
FIRST Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.
Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team (FirstInspires.Org).
